"The side of a small cliff among dry dusty outcrops. This rock is a fragment of a large outcrop of fossilized microbial mats called stromatolites. I've always been fascinated by this ancient lifeform which represents our earliest example of life on Earth. The specimen is approximately 650 million years, the oldest examples of stromatolites are 3.5 billion years old."
